DETOXIFICATION
Why Detoxify?
Detoxification it is one of those buzz words that is heard more often these days. What is all the hoopla about, and why would you every consider detoxification? Firstly, we are barraged by more and more environmental toxins than ever before in human history, and our normal coping mechanisms are stressed from the overload. Secondly, the nutrients and other co-factors that normally aid the body in the detoxification process are entering our bodies at a far smaller rate than ever before.
Whole-Body Medicine has constructed a comprehensive plan to help each patient remove the toxins from their system and restore their optimal health. While each case is unique, the following is an overview of what you can expect from the Whole-Body Detox Plan, and why it is an important stop on the journey to better health and wellness.
Digestion
We all lead busy lives, and most people tend to eat poorly to varying degrees. Therefore, it is important to give the most critical organ systems in our body a well deserved vacation. Here we are speaking of none other than your digestive system.
Day in and day out, your mouth, stomach, pancreas, small intestines, large intestines, and various glands breakdown and absorb the foods we ingest. These organs do their best, but between the refined carbohydrates and greasy saturated fatty foods, their task is a difficult one. Just as you like to kick back and take it easy at times, our body’s digestive organs need to do the same.
To accomplish this you must remove foods that cause the most reactivity within the body, as well as processed and refined foods, and sources of toxins, such as pesticide sprayed produce. This, along with individually selected medicinal support, helps the gut relax and heal.
The Liver
The other major systems that need to be addressed are the organs of detoxification such as the liver, skin, and lymphatics. Your liver, which is located under the right side of your rib cage, is the organ responsible for taking all environmental toxins (including food, medicines, environmental chemicals, etc..) as well as toxins released from normal cellular processes, and converting them into harmless by-products that get excreted in the feces and urine. Certain foods that you eat on the Whole-Body Detox Plan will make the liver’s job a bit easier. There may also be a need for gentle stimulation of the liver using certain botanicals and homeopathic medicines.
Skin
Taking care of your skin during this detoxification is also worthy of taking notice. Your skin is not only what the rest of the world sees, but is a major resource for the body to excrete toxins. And as you may already know, the skin can absorb certain medicines. It is therefore a perfect vehicle to introduce site specific, as well as whole body natural nutrients. If your skin is an issue, be sure to ask about the Jurlique skin care line we offer at our clinic.
Colon Health
Finally, to rid your body of toxins, you must have healthy bowel movements. If you are constipated (in other words, if you don’t go after just about every meal, i.e. 1-3 time per day), then the toxins your body begins to dump into your colon, will only get reabsorbed for another chance at insulting your body. That is why we recommend that just about every patient undergo colonic hydrotherapy during their days of detoxification. This is a time tested, safe and gentle way to “clean-house” and restore normal gut motility.
Metabolic Individuality
After the detoxification phase of your wellness plan has been completed we can test to see what foods you should eat or avoid in the long run. This is accomplished by a testing process called Metabolic Typing. It is based on the fact that one man’s food can be another man’s poison. Each individual has their own unique biochemical metabolism. For instance, not everyone who is osteoporotic needs to take calcium. In fact, for some, this may make their osteoporosis worse!
Tailored To You
At Whole-Body Medicine, we recognize that every person is unique, and that not every part of the Whole-Body Detox Plan is appropriate for every patient. That is why we will tailor the plan to meet your specific needs. We may be more precise regarding which foods you should eat or avoid. The medicines we prescribe for you will be focused on the goals unique to your case. Perhaps we will utilize other therapies at our disposal such as phototherapy or hyperbaric oxygen to aid the body in its healing process.
In Conclusion
Please follow the doctor’s instructions as strictly as possible. Try to avoid any major stressors or major interruptions in your daily routine, such as extended travel while on the Whole Body Detox Plan. It is also very important to get a good amount of sleep each night. This is your body’s time to heal, and that means getting enough rest. If you feel inclined to do so, breathing exercises and/or meditation can be a helpful way to bring your mind and body into a relaxed and healing state.
One final note: Drink plenty of pure water. 8-10 eight ounce glasses of water per day will help your body eliminate the toxins. Never drink tap water, only distilled or spring water without any added fluoride or chlorine.
